The North Berwick Christian Youth Trust (NBCYT) was set up in 2006 by Abbey, Dirleton, North Berwick Christian Fellowship and St Andrew Blackadder churches as a vehicle to enable them to engage with and reach out to young people in the North Berwick area. In 2012 Athelstaneford Parish Church joined as a participating Church of the Trust. The NBCYT operates under the name 'Inspire' and is a registered charity. While each church has contact with some young people, the majority of young people in the area have no direct contact with any Christian group. Recognising that working together makes us more effective the Trust was created with the aim of employing a full time youth worker however after 10 years in existence the Trustees felt our current model needed to be reviewed. The Trustees are currently formulating a future strategy for the future of the Trust going forward.
In the short term Inspire will continue to operate without a paid youth worker. The Trust is immensly thankful for all the hard work done by Shiona Liddle who was our youth worker for 6 years until Christmas 2016. Inspire plans to hold some youth events between now and June 2017, similar to Download which happened on Saturday 3 December 2016.
We long that the children, in our homes and community will grow into full, happy, rounded adults. Growing up in a time of unimaginable opportunity and bewildering choice both the possibilities and the difficulties they face are magnified.
Jesus shows what full, happy, rounded life looks like. As teenage years began we are told that ‘As Jesus grew up, he increased in wisdom and favour with God and with People.’ (Luke 2:52)
Inspire believes there is a direct connection between ‘favour with God and with people.’ Faith in God doesn’t just help a person sort out the spiritual bit of their life. Faith in God enables all the other bits of life to fit together – work, family, friends and leisure. Social, mental and emotional well-being are the fruit of life centred on Jesus Christ.
Most young people today are rarely in church and many know little about Jesus. So the church needs to go to them.
We need your support
To achieve this, it needs your support. Initial funding for our work came from generous grants, including the Church of Scotland's Parish Development Fund. These have now come to an end and that was a major factor in recent urgent review of the future of Inspire by the Trustees. We need many local supporters to give a small amount each month so we can sustain this ministry. Please consider what you can give.
We also need your support through regular prayer and practical support as a volunteer.
To find our more details or if you would like to be added to our supporters list and receive updates on our activities please contact our secretary, Susan Ralston, or contact one of the local churches who established Inspire.
Please help in whatever way you can to aid our efforts to the young people of the North Berwick area.
